There is some bread there.

Naru sits down at a chair to eat it. Then she takes out her mini computer to see if it can find any readings or anything about what's happened.

The bread tastes like cardboard, and the computer won't turn on.

"Stupid thing"

Naru goes back outside and gains some higher ground to see the layout of the village.

The village is the same as normal, but completely silent and deserted.

Naru walks to the edge of the village to see if it's still moving.

Beneath the village, blackness lies. Silent and complete. It covers the ground, it IS the ground, and stretches in every direction.

Naru finds a rock and throws it into the abyss.

It disappears from sight.

"Without a sound..." Naru ponders.

She then finds somewhere comfy to sit down and relax for a bit.

The silence becomes so incredible, she cannot hear herself breath.

"Well that is indeed strange" She says to noone. She begins to wander around the edge of the village, looking for anything in the abyss or anywhere else that might explain what the hell is going on.

Suddenly, she hears a noise. It sounds like tearing paper, but is magnified to almost unbearably loud levels. It appears to come from the black abyss below.

Naru walks to the centre of the village and climbs on top of one of the roofs to see if she can see what is going on and if she can see anybody.

The village is completely deserted. The tearing becomes unbearable.

She gets her water gun out and leans against a chimney, keeping her eyes peeled for whatever it is that's coming. Naru puts her hands over her ears, hoping to block some of the sound out.

The sound begins to disorient and pain her with its unbearable loudness. She collapses on the floor and tries to cover her ears as it increases further.

Naru covers her head with her coat.

The tearing ceases, and the village shakes violently for a moment. After that, everything seems to be normal.

"Well that was strange" Naru says, heading towards the courthouse.

Inside, the man who had been arrested earlier has just received his final verdict. He was pronounced guilty, and they led him out the courthouse toward the side of the village. As they passed Naru, he looked at her with sad eyes.
"Where were you?"
He is led away through the streets.

Naru decides to follow them. She does so a fair distance away and if they happen to stop she will keep walking and turn a corner until they overtake her again, so as to not arouse suspicion.

They reach the edge of the village. Two men pull the arrested man up to the edge of the village.
"Any last words, murderer scum?" says one of them.
He looks frantically at the small crowd that has gathered.
"You all know me! You know I wouldn't do this!"
"That's enough. Throw him over."

"I can't watch this" Naru says to herself. She walks slowly back to the village square, slightly guilty about not being able to help him.

She notices a large group of people down a side street trying to kick down a door.
