I never really saw HL:Source as that big an improvement on the first HL. That's why I was looking forward to Black Mesa, cause it seemed like it was going to be what HL:Source should have been in the first place.

I'm downloading it now...

Considering i've never played the original Half Life, I should enjoy this game...

Restart steam and it should appear in your library.

Been playing this for a few nights now and I'm really enjoying it. I've never played any of the Half Life games before. It's suprisingly challenging considering i'm playing it on Easy. I've gotten stuck in a couple of places and resorted to looking up a walkthrough, but mainly because I don't have the patience these days to figure it out for myself.

Try not to think of it as a complete recreation of HL - it's more like a love letter. There's a whole bunch of things that I can't remember in the original, like the scientist on the toilet who needs you to pass him the toilet paper. It's not a direct remake, rather a re-imagining, if that makes sense,

That guy is actually in it, I got an achievement when I gave the toilet paper to him ^^ I get what you mean though. I think the very outdated graphics of the original would turn me off playing. Maybe if I finish all of HL2 I'll go back and complete it.

Um since when did Half-Life ever have achievements?
or a scientist on the toilet? that's more Duke Nukem style, Half-Life had taste...

And the graphics on the original aren't too bad, I'm spewing the original doesn't work in eyefinity because Half-Life:Source actually looks worse then the original. Colours are over saturated and textures just look funky.

But still, having fun playing through Half-Life:Source at the moment. Should hopefully finish it tonight then move on to Half-Life 2 Razz

oh right, I misread that as saying half-life DID have the scientist on the toilet.

I'll probably go back and do the expansions once i'm done (unless Black Mesa includes them?).

I've been playing BM for a few hours now and i've gotta say it's fantastic. I love how your gun gets all covered in goo when you kill a head crab up close. Whoever made this mod put a lot of attention to detail in it, like how the soda from machines can heal you...

But wait! OMG AN UNEVEN TEXTURE!!! OH NO!!! STOP PLAYING IMMEDIATELY!!!

Seriously? I've seen many retail games have these...and this is a damn mod...a fantastic mod that being...

You also have to remember...it's Half Life...for free...

I have to say that this game has one bit that really blew me away, and that's the cliff side. I haven't played an FPS that felt as open and massive as this part of the map (see screenshots). You rarely get a view like this, and when you do it's usually just a parallax image or has lots of obstructions in the way to block you. This just felt totally open and realistic. Such a great sense of scale when playing it - the screenshots don't quite do it justice, but when you're moving around you get the parallax effect and it feels great. For a brief moment it stopped feeling like a computer game.

I want Xen now. I knew it wasn't there but it still didn't stop the ending being disappointing. Tempted to go back and play it on hard mode but the soliders are a pain in the arse already on medium.

I just finished it and loved it ^^ Was surprised by the very abrupt ending though. Is Xen what I need to be playing next? Does it start right where Black Mesa ended?
