So far, I am quite disappointed. Pretty much exactly the same as the original. **** textures and all.

You didn't swear, did you Emilia? Razz

I'm enjoying it, but it definitely feels like a 4 year old game. It's a definite update from the original though. The sounds are fantastic.

I can't wait to finally play this game, It's gotta look better then last time I finished it!

Man I remember I was rocking 2x 12meg Voodoo2 cards in SLI
[RANT] (REAL SLI, not the crap we have to deal with today) [/RANT]
On top of whatever crappy 2d card I had at the time which gave me the ability to play it at a mind blowing 1024x768 resolution Twisted Evil

To play it at 6048x1200 is gunna kick some serious ass!

note: I'm easily pleased I love my retro games... I'm one of the few people that thoroughly enjoyed DNF Smile

Got some stuff to be working on today but I think I may need to make some space between that and the pub tonight for some Black Mesa. Websites are going super slow (2 hours to download it) but if the torrent stays like this I'll have it in 12 minutes.

I'm a massive fan of the HL2 games but I've only ever played HL1 once, briefly. Always kept meaning to go back to it... would I be better playing it instead of Black Mesa Source?

The textures would be a lot better if more of them had specularity. And if the lighting was better. So far what I've played it all has very flat, even lighting. No real shadows or bright spots, everything just looks lit by a big omnipresent, ambient source. Doesn't do much to help the atmosphere.

Zombies look good though!

That's a minor complain from me, don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying it so far. Can't expect a fan-made thing to be perfect.

Exactly. Since being apart of the GE:S team, I have noticed minor details in games a lot more now.

For example:
http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/540686853012108570/0C80ADA00C372E7E61DCEC8598BB439EA74558D5/
This texture doesn't line up properly. This bothers me. If a GES mapper saw this in their own map, they would fix it.

I think I am just used to the insanely high quality of GES mapping.

This mod comes off as extremely rushed to me. I'm going to give it another chance when I get the time.

The underground stuff is looking a bit better, although I did have to noclip after I got jammed behind a pipe on the floor (which I should have been able to just jump over) and a wall. And I did accidentally fall down a set of ladders that has a loading point half way down so I fell into a loop of loading/die/loading/die which was very frustrating. And some textures are much lower res that others, which is annoying. Particularly on posters, I love reading the little details on those types of things.

But overall yeah, it either feels rushed, as in "meh, it's good enough, move on to the next bit," or that some of the people working on it fall short of the professional level, though in most cases you'd just need a good director/leader to say "almost there, this bit isn't quite right, do this and that to it."

It feels like a game that was made after Half Life but before Half Life 2, really. I think I'm disappointed most because I've been waiting so long and I've seen the advancements made in episode 2 and what's been done in GoldenEye Source so I've been expecting too much maybe.

Oh yeah. The posters that you should be able to read...seems a bit ridiculous. Cy uses posters in his mapping. Not that hard to do.

I'd just like to add that after another few hours playing I am a bit more impressed with the game, they've got a lot right. Really enjoying it.

Well, apart from the soldiers' voices, they're a bit ridiculous. Sounds like I'm playing Time Crisis or Tekken or something. Were they in the original or is they new?

Well it's been greenlit so steam will be doing what they can to put it up as soon as its ready enough.

I might see if I can get my boss to download Black Mesa for me tomorrow... I've been playing through Half-Life: Source today and am up to the Xen part, So It will be interesting to play through Black Mesa afterwords and compare the two.

It'd be nice to have a crosshair as well! No crosshair in Half-Life:Source in eyefinity Sad
Still better then no eyefinity in normal Half-Life Razz
