Everyone has most likely heard this currently huge story on the news.

Queensland are currently having the worst flooding they have ever had, at the moment the death toll stands at 12, with another 51 missing.

The reach of the flood is on a massive scale, as this map shows.

View Queensland's big wet in a larger map

As you can see South-East and parts of Central Queensland are flooded, and it is going to get worse with the river reaching a peak of 5.5 metres.

This 3D simulation shows what the Brisbane will be like at 5.5 metres, the CBD will be underwater tommorrow.

I'm watching the BBC world news at the moment from my hotel room. It's the main headline story.

The good thing is that many of the houses in Brizzy are on stilts, so it saves them a bit of their possessions.

Here's hoping the recovery effort from the government will fix everything up quickly once the floodwaters recede.

Moved to Current Events.

Yeah, the stilts didn't really help in a lot of areas. A lot of houses have just gone completely underwater.

The water is going down, but I have a feeling it will go back up again. It looks like it is going to rain.

The stilts weren't designed for flooding, that's why, they're usually there so that air gets under the house and helps keep it cool during the summer. There's some fancy word for it.

Really tragic, the flooding. And my whole area (the East Coast) are expected to get constant rain between February and winter O.o

Yeah the stilts actually let water in through the house, because most of the time its wooden floors, and instead of all the water flowing though the doors, it makes its own way in.

this has been a horrible tragedy, i cant imagine how terrible you would feel after having lost everything Sad I really hope that the people who have lost their homes are able to start their lives again.

Watching the news and reading on the net, you can see a lot of people have been shattered by these events Sad I really hope the missing people are found and safe, I really hate the feeling of not knowing how your friends/family are, if they are safe or not Sad

Finally! I have been waiting for Nearmap to be updated!

Nearmap is like Google Earth, but 100 times better.

Look at the flooding here

There are floods in central Victoria now as well, but they don't seem as catastrophic at the moment: only 2000 people have been evacuated.
