An 11 year old girl gave birth today and the alleged father, who is 30 has been arrested.

How could this even happen!

I heard about this on the radio this morning. It's so messed up. That poor girl.

Even if the two of them say it was consensual, how the hell can an 11 year old really understand what sex actually is and the (emotional and physical) consequences? It's impossible for any child that age to give informed consent. That man is totally sick for what he's done. The thought of him raping this little girl makes me sick to my stomach. It's so completely wrong.

To answer your question Emilia - childhood sexual abuse is unfortunately common. Some girls reach puberty at age 8, so it's physically possible. I'm sure you knew that but I thought I'd say it anyway.

Ok, lets assume the parents didn't know what happened when they left her to be babysat (babysitten?). How would you not notice your child's increase in mass over 9 months!?

Regardless of the state this happens in, abortion is perfectly legal to protect the physical and mental health of the woman. If your child is pregnant, I think that is grounds for an abortion. Even if you are extremely religious surely you would want a healthy daughter than a dead one.
