This topic is about the Chinese opression of information. How the government thinks it can keep the populace quiet by erasing their wrongs from history. Way to go China, ignore all your flaws and faults and try to pretend nothings wrong. That will end well. Thats my opinion.
Discuss.

That has some logic to it, for future generations, they wont have to know of their stuff ups, so they have no clouded judgment to strive to reach something, i.e they have no reason to question themselves...
However, that can also screw them up... "If you have no education of the past, history shall repeat itself"

I wouldn't say they would have clouded judgement, if they accepted their faults, they would have a better understanding of the right choices to make for their people.

I'm with fade, the Chinese oppression of information and high censorship is not the way to go.

Oppressing information is going backwards. We build the internet, the information superhighway, and they are cutting it out of the Chinese peoples lives. They are dumbing their nation down for the sake of pride. It ain't right.

That is so very true. This is very similar to the mandatory internet censorship filter that the Australian Government is planning to force every isp to have and is exactly why it is the wrong thing to do.

I can't believe the Aussie government would even think of doing that. Just because China refuses to learn from its mistakes doesn't mean we can't.

Making it a better future for them? It will do nothing of the sort. It is solely about controlling the populace - the man who controls the media, controls the people. It is simply power hungry people seeking further, and more potent power. Nothing good about it.

And the Australian government is planning on buying the filter from the same people who the Chinese bought it from. The filter will block thousands and thousands of site's which aren't meant to. They even put in a practice filter on some participating sites, and a 16 year old cracked it in 30 minutes.

Great job K'Rudd.

Kevin Rudd is the prime minister, therefore we can blame him for anything that the Australian government does, since he's the main representative for it. Besides, I'm sure Kevin Rudd could stop the internet filter if he wanted to, he's the prime minister after all.

I'm sure his personal internet won't get censored if it comes to the full censor.

Well I doubt that I'd be able to hack it without help or a long period of trying. But the point still stands, if people can get past the filter, what's the point in having one? None, that's what.

I like K Rudd. End of story.

But this is way off from what we were talking about.

I think it is really important that future Chinese generation learn everything about their past. It may be an embarrassment to the country, but I think every country has them. As long as children are told what was done is the past was wrong, it will stop people from repeating the mistakes of the past.
