We all have a dream job when we were young, what do you wanna be when you leave school/uni/tafe?
Whats your job you have always wanna do?
What course are you in atm to get to that job?
Dont be ashamed lol...

Personally, when i was young, my dad worked in the mines, so it was a like father like son thing.
When i leave school, i hopefully want to get onto the Gorgan gas project through linked provided by the course im in at school atm, well thats one possibility..
Or go and join the navy and be a marine technician.. All in all they lead to apprentechips...

Ive always wanted to be a Marine biologist, but its just too hard, and even if i achieve the grades needed, its even harder to even get a job...

I wouldn't really care what job I have, as long as I'm making as much money as possible. Atm, I'm studying electrical engineering at uni, so looks like I'm going to be an electrical engineer lol.

When I was little I kept changing my mind as to what I wanted to do when I grew up. I finally set on psychology, which I'm studying at the moment, just because it's so intriguing.

Eventually I want to become a school psychologist, so counsel kids in schools. It wasn't effective at my old high school, so I'll be making it more so when I become one. I'll probably have to get my diploma of education at some point, but it's only a year and I'm not scared of further study Very Happy

I understand where that saying comes from - "if your doing a job you love, you never work a day in your life"

But, if that were to be true, then that must mean that your prepared to do your dream job without getting paid, because you "love" what your doing. Can you think of a job you would do without getting paid, I sure can't. Everyone works for one reason, to get paid. Of course everyone wants to do something that they will enjoy, but people don't work because they want to, people work for the money. If you had won the lottery and you didn't have to work a day in your life, I don't think you would work.

So, with me, I couldn't really care less what job I do in my future as long as I'm getting paid good money.

Anyway, what do you mean electrotechnology miniman? Is that the name of the course that you're studying at tafe or university? If it is, I guess it would be similar to what I'm studying.

If I won the lottery, I would still want to become a psychologist, and work as one. I haven't worked my butt off for the last three years to throw that away. And it still interests me. All winning the lottery will mean that I won't have financial stress and I could work part time or go on international holidays if I wanted to.

mmm yeah well thats fine random, but people mainly just work for the money.

If I won the lottery, I may finish my degree and work as an electrical engineer as well out of boredom, but I doubt it.

I've never heard of that VET course before miniman, but yeah I guess it would kind of be about electronics and how they work, it would probably contain some of the stuff that I study at uni.

I have wanted to be a pharmacist since I was in year 4. I didn't have a perception of money back then. I chose it for what the job is, not how much I get paid.

Say if I were to win the lottery tomorrow, I would finish my degree. I would work to get my hours done. Then I would buy a pharmacy. That means that I am in control of a group of people providing health care and advice under my name, how I want it to be.

People think pharmacists just count pills (that is actually true in America. All the medicines come in huge bottles and the pharmacist takes it and counts how many the patient needs, whereas in Australia, the amount of pills a person gets is influenced by how many are in the packet - pre-packaging! Woo). It's so much more than that and as many of you know from me talking to you about various drugs, they aren't as safe as they may seem. Educating people about drugs - I love it.

However, i want to avoid uni if i can..

And martin, its like just come out last year, been validated, then become available this year...
Its fairly new, it sounds cool.

I'm not sure if I want to specialise, or what I would specialise in. But the human body really intrigues me. The infinite complexity of how our body works, and what can happen to it is simply mind boggling. The things that we are able to do with modern science today is insane as well. Like my dad, when he had an operation they took out all his intestines and plonked them on a table for several hours. They sorted through them, did what they needed to do, and put it back in. The twins that were recently separated; all these amazing things that humans can now do. I want to be a part of it.

The only problem is the daunting amount of study I have ahead of me, if I even want to get close.

Yeah, large amounts of study is needed for those kinds of jobs. I'm going to need to do lots of study to become what I want to be too: finish my 4 year undergraduate degree, finish a 2 years masters to specialise in counselling psychology, and then the 1 year dip. ed. so I can get proper respect from the teachers at the school I counsel at. So that's 8 years, although I won't be doing it all in one block. Once I finish my undergrad I'm going to go work in a psych related field for a bit - I reckon I'll be sick of studying by then.

Yeah I guess lol, I'll help you if I can miniman.

When I was in primary school I wanted to be a pilot, I guess that would be my "dream job" from when I was young, but I didn't end up getting into it because it cost too much money to get into the civil aviation side of things, money which my parents didn't have. I was in the aafc (australian air force cadets) when I was in high school and got as far as learning how to fly a small plane, a sesnut (the spelling is probably wrong, but thats what the name of the plane sounds like). Flying the plane was awesome, probably one of the best times of my life.

I was going to apply to become a pilot in the air force, but my eyesight was too crap, so I applied to become an aeronautical engineer in the air force instead because I would be working with aircraft and I'm good with maths and science. Unfortunately I didn't get into that, so now I'm just studying electrical engineering here in Perth, but I would've really done any uni course as long as it wasn't arts, literature or some crap like that. All I really care about now, is money lol.

As a pharmacist, I would be constantly be learning. Stuff changes so quick in pharmacy, every 6 or less months, you have to keep on top of it all. I'm looking forward to it Very Happy

That's kind of the same as many other careers emilia. I mean, for example with my chosen future career of electrical engineering I would need to keep up to date and know all the latest advances in technology in my field to keep up to date with everything.

I was just saying it would be more so with me. Same with anyone in the health department. Doctors, nurses...it just changes way too quickly. Some people don't like change. My point was BRING IT ON!

lol yeah you're right emilia, it would change quite quickly with all the changes in disease and developments in medecine and all that. I wouldn't say "bring it on" though lol, I guess if you enjoy what your doing enough, it doesn't really matter.

Psychologists too. Some don't keep up though, which in my opinion, is absolute crap practise and there isn't any excuse for it. [/rant].

There are people in my year group at uni who have no idea what they want to do, they're just doing psychology because it's there. I feel bad for them, I can't think of much worse than not having a goal in life.

Hey Mijy, you wanted to be an architect, but what about interior design? They're sort of similar.

The only thing I have ever wanted to be, ever since learning to write, is an author. I absolutely love writing, the ability do do anything, anything at all by just putting a pen to paper, that's how I see writing. To make up characters and give them problems and watch as their personality changes without interference as they live in their world. Unfortunately, although I have written a couple of brilliant short stories, I can't stick to a single idea long enough to make a novel out of it. Being realistic, there's not much chance of me ever becoming an author, and I'll wind up doing some office job for a corporation. That sucks.
