Bad news: I've just got my laptop back from Toshiba, but they've replaced the hard drive. This means that, as well as about 100 hours worth of Football Manager, we've lost about a month's worth of Spectrum City. The choice is yours: we can

A) Reboot the backup of Spec City from mid-August

or

B) Start a fresh world, from scratch, on the latest snapshot.

Let me know!

I know it's been down for a while, but during that period whenever I put it on, no one would go online for days, so I got a little bit lax about it. Then the computer broke. At about midnight my time tonight, I'll abide by the highest number of votes in the poll, so the server will be up for tomorrow.

I don't like the idea of all the effort that was put into the previous world gets lost if we start a new one, but we also need to work out a more permanent solution to the server issues, if it is not available for long periods of time interest is going to die off really fast.

The cheapest solution i've been able to find is about $35 a month for a server that can take more than 8 simultaneous players.

I'm happy to upload the backed up previous world to a filesharing site so people can use it themselves, i guess.

There was very little interest in the server when it was up - it would go days at a time with no users, so I got a bit lazy with it. If the players exhibited more interest, that'd give me more motivation to ensure that it was up as regularly as possible (except, of course, when I'm at uni which is about 4 hours at midday ish on weekdays, as it is running on my laptop after all).

For the people who have been playing: How much stuff will you have lost if we put the back up on?

With the usage you have to understand that although the server was up it may have not been at a time that we were bale to play at but also uni exams and stuff interfere with stuff like that too so its very on off. Plus as my brother (J22) said why build on there when he can't access the server when he has time (not a criticism just that i think we should talk about the future of the server so Pearly doesn't feel pressured and so we know whats going on)

And i wouldn't really lose much i don't think id we used the backup

If there's people looking at playing more often than before, I'm happy to have it running more regularly - as in, whenever the computer is sitting at home. Even more, I can run it from Dropbox, so that if I need to take my laptop out I can run it on the desktop with no hassles, ensuring pretty much 24/7 online time.

Tell you what, I'll put it online in about ten minutes with the back-up (latest snapshot, whichever it is) and we'll see how we go.

So we're back up and running, as far as I can tell, on snapshot 12w37a, on the backup of the map. If anyone has problems joining, let me know.

You seriously want to spend that kind of money on a Minecraft server?

Does it look like I joking I was one of idiots who brought MW3 hardened edition of around $230 on eBay (I spend too much money)
And plus if your server is fast enough we may not need paid server.

But in ultimate reality I better off spending it on EB expo or at Perth

For the amount of people playing, this is not worth it

Many free servers are avaliable and not enough members regularly use MC anymore for it to stay feasible.
