I have the proposal that we should get a local hosted minecraft server running in which we create a city we dedicate to Spectrum in.

I am willing to host the server but am not 100% sure how to use the software for it.

If this has already been done let me know and I will tear down this topic :-P I just couldn't find anything on it in the minecraft section.

It's actually "KiSMs" Minecraft server and in no way is it affiliated with DPS other than KiSM being a member of DPS.

Isn't it really easy to run a MC server? I have a mate who used to run one out of his bedroom. Don't even think it was a separate computer.

The software seems pretty simple, I have been running it every now and then to see if it works, occasionally I do get a bug with it, where you cant destroy blocks, you break them but nothing happens, it is very close to the spawn point if that is why

Yeah, it is simple Pearly, but if there is going to be a lot of us, it would be better if it were running on a separate computer.

Well I do have my laptop which can run the software, while I play on my desktop, the only problem being is that my laptop I turn off over night

That's not tooooo bad as long as you're from Australia, depending on your sleeping hours

Wait soz i just remembered that i started experimenting with my linux server distros and yea my server is not gonna be functional till after my exams (2 weeks)

when i do put my server up its lag free for australians and playable for elsewhere, 8 slots

Ahhhh ok, him setting it up is good by me :-P and the weirdest IPs would probably be the IPv6, but havent seen them yet, otherwise maybe.... Depends how you look at it, whether in binary or regular numbers, so hard to tell

yea i got a free domain name for my server thus dpsvent.no-ip.org i can change it though... maybe spectrum..no-ip.org or somthin

and yea ill use CraftBukkit with some admin mods, anti grief, minecart booster, economy etc

plus it will be run on my dedicated linux box
