In high school I did music class, and one year we spent a term doing remixes. We used Acid Pro. I don't have anything to compare it to and I was only 15 or so at the time, but I really enjoyed working with it.

You can get a free trial of the newest version here: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/acidpro

Also, PC Authority magazine usually has software reviews, so if you go look up their website they might have something.

Well when i was going to become an online dj for blade radio (my offer still stands if i have the spare time) They got me to use this program called SAM Broadcasting. Now its more like a radio station dj where they can blend music, and add random sounds like gunfire and farm animals.

That is the link to download the latest version, only thing is, its not free but it is really easy to use once you know what you are doing.

(I think you are able to download a free trial from the site though)

Another quite simple - but free dj/song mixing program is called Audacity

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

It lets you change songs to your liking by splicing, changing the tempo and pitch.

Pro Tools 9 is expensive and big production companies use it.
