Cthulu is based on a whole fictional world, there have been books and many computer games based on the fiction.

Its pretty sick stuff actually, really old books about Gods that created us and shiit like that, describing humans as weak stupid insignificant beings who live a very short life compared to much more powerful beings who control the universe and stuff. Oh and apparently if we ever came into contact with any of these powerful beings we would just go insane and die as we do not have the mental ability to comprehend them.

There are a lot of strange and wonderful beasts in the Cthulu universe, you could probably find out about it if you did a Google search. I know all this because I've played Call of Cthulu - Dark Corners of the Earth, one very sick fcuked game that was the best horror game that i've probably ever played. That game definitely scared the shiit out of me at certain points.
