Click the home page and on the top right hand corner, click "View Posts Since Last Visit"

Very useful, but could the forum be changed to highlight unread stuff instead of new stuff? I don't care if its new, because if its unread, its new anyway.

Yes, if you have cookies enabled and you don't clear them, unread threads show up as yellow and read threads are dark purple.

However, you must have click on the links from the home page and not the latest post list in the Members' Lounge for this to work.

yes that works but i meant on the home page, the green dots for each subforum only represent new posts not unread posts, in reality it should have both.

Have you ever seen a forum do that? I haven't.

I don't browse many forums, so no I can't think of one.

Is it not possible to give an indicator for New and Unread like that?

I don't see the difference. If it is something you haven't read before, then of course it is going to come up as a new post.

No no, see I didn't realise the difference either at first when I said

but there is, see I want to know if there's stuff I haven't got around to reading yet, but due to a lack of time or not wanting to for whatever reason, I may not end up reading everything, so when I come back I want to know if there is stuff I did not get around to reading without having to check every single subforum because none of it is new and the home forum wont highlight it for me

No its not a big deal to check every single one, except the Gaming Forum, because it has a million subforums, I want minimal clicking coz I'm lazy lol

I don't know if this is really possible using phpBB(the system the forum is using). I know SMF can do something that might work, but that is a totally different forum system.

Here is a system I had going on a old forum:


It showed latest post, even if it is in the same thread. And this could be projected to homepage.


But as far as I know(I have really zero time with phpBB) there really isn't a effective system for showing new posts.

Just looking at recent activity in the member lounge I think should be pretty good system for active to semi active forum watching.


One thing that I think would be doable would be adding a "New Post" image or something next to the unread posts. The highlighting system is kinda off sometimes for me as well.

Technically, the home page should have the green button on when you still haven't read posts, which I am not happy about.
I'll look around on Forumotion and see what I can do, but I don't think I will be able to have the two buttons.

There is only one solution. Go on Spectrum more.

I guess the Member Lounge and View Posts Since Last Visit should be good enough
