I've never been one for valentines day, really had no purpose. But this year I got to see one I love so was a good day.

Being single is actually pleasant on V-Day to me, less stigma to "have" to do things.

Basically people shouldn't be waiting to the one day of the year to show someone how much they love them.

Random gifts, flowers, date nights, surprises. Don't have to wait for a holiday/birthday/anniversary to do these things. And it doesn't matter how long you have been together. Even if you are married, you should still be going out on regular dates together.

Doing this was much nicer for me during relationships

I never really believed in buying stuff especially for Valentines Day but it's not hard to do something. Not out of obligation but just to be sweet. Even if your partner's not really into Valentines Day they're still going to enjoy it so long as you don't make them feel bad because you spent loads they did nothing. Just organise something mutual. Get a rose or something, cook a nice meal, hang out, do whatever follows. They may or may not be a little disappointed if you do nothing but they're not going to be disappointed that you are doing something for the day, unless they really are one of those really uptight, bitter people who rally against it.

I never got the hate a lot of people give Valentines Day. Dunno about you guys but every year people I know complain about it (mostly on Facebook or in the pub) and it's always those who are either single, or with someone who shares their opinion on the matter. So in either case, it doesn't matter in the slightest, there's literally no pressure on them at all. Why go on about it if it doesn't affect you? And that's like, a day for only one person - they never complain about the arbitrary buying of gifts for loads of people at Christmas, the most commercialised holiday there is.
