Now this is just... wow. I really don't know what to say. I think some of these "traditions" are just too retarded to exist today. I know that that's their culture but things must evolve. Hopefully all these "revolutions" in the Middle East and Northern Africa spark that change...

The thing is, not all women bleed during their first time. Are they going to get punished if they are virgins but don't bleed? Maybe some women buy them to make sure she does "bleed"

They aren't "supposed" to. Some do. They is blood because the hymen breaks, which is a piece of skin that is covers the opening of the vagina.

A lot of women don't bleed because they have used tampons or even playing sport can cause it to stretch.

There isn't a lot of blood, just a few drops.

There are a few different traditions. One states that the couple must place the sheets on the balcony of the house to show that the couple have consummated their marriage, for all to see. Another is that there will be a person/family in the room whilst the couple have sex and they inspect the sheets afterwards (yeah, no privacy there)
